$825K Given for Downtown Naming Rights

September 19, 2017

Key aspects of the first phase of the revitalization of downtown Wilkesboro will bear the names of two Wilkesboro-based companies. “Carolina West Wireless Community Commons” is the new name for the newly-enhanced Open Air Market, plus the “splash pad” water play area being built on the adjacent Wilkes Heritage Museum front lawn. “Wilkes Communications Pavilion” is the name of the new 70-by-23-foot stage along Main Street in the Carolina West Wireless Community Commons. In similar but separate agreements filed at the Wilkes Register of Deeds office in July, Carolina West Wireless Inc. committed to giving $525,000 and Wilkes Communications Inc. committed to giving $300,000 to the Town of Wilkesboro in return for the naming rights. Slayton Stewart, CEO of Carolina West Wireless, said the downtown revitalization project fulfills the community’s vision of creating a workable and visually appealing mixed-use downtown area.
