The proposal would extend sewer services to the airport at the south side facility, with a total cost of $506,200 for the full piping expansion. The project came before council to accommodate new construction and current tenant growth needs at the airport. Along with providing sewer service to hangar developments on the south side of the airport, five private properties along Anthony Road also would receive sewer service. The Council spent the rest of the evening discussing a state Department of Commerce Main Street Solutions Grant in regards to the Burlington Beer Works, the upcoming Bloomberg Mayors Challenge, and the concern over allowing Sunday morning alcohol sales in Burlington. The city was selected to compete in the 2017 Bloomberg Mayor Challenge. Being one of the first 300 cities to apply, the city is being given an Idea Accelerator Workshop, in which a Bloomberg facilitator will join the city to go through and refine the city’s ideas to determine which one will be submitted to the challenge. The workshop was set for Friday after the council gave permission for the city to proceed.
