Downtown Concord continues to grow and show signs of success with more and more businesses opening up and new development looking to bring more retail downtown. That was the message given during the recent Concord Downtown Development Corporation annual meeting held at Red Hill Brewing Company. During the 2016-17 fiscal year that ran from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017, downtown Concord had 17 businesses open. Even with 11 businesses closing, that was a net of six new businesses. Plus, three businesses expanded their operations, including Hive, Viva Boutique and We Hug ‘Em and Tuck ‘Em Inn. All told, between new businesses and expansions there were 14 full-time jobs and 23-part-time jobs created. There was also $750,191 worth of private investment and $581,699 worth of public investment for a total of $1.3 million in investment in downtown Concord. And those numbers will take a jump next year, as the Hotel Concord project isn’t included in those figures, since the numbers only include completed projects. Officials said the Hotel Concord project now looks to be more than $6 million worth of investment alone.
