Council Agrees to Buy Building for Downtown Restrooms

Hendersonville City Council agreed Thursday to purchase a property on Fifth Avenue for conversion into a downtown public restroom. Money for the purchase will not come from property tax revenue, said Holloway, but from the Main Street municipal service district tax, sales tax dollars and the Downtown Hendersonville budget. They have also applied for a grant from the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority. Holloway said the sale price is in line with recent sales that have occurred with similar properties downtown. “I’ve been on council 12 years and we’ve talked about bathrooms for all 12 years,” said Stephens. “Bathrooms and parking.”
