Downtown Belmont Launches Free Public Wi-Fi

January 26, 2018

Belmont has launched free wireless internet access to the public in its downtown area. The private North Carolina-based internet service provider Open Broadband has fired up its unique ultra-high-speed Wi-Fi service for public use in the Main Street area. Visitors to downtown are now able to access the 1-gigabit wireless internet outdoors without a password through any internet-ready device. Gastonia also offers free wireless internet. “We live in a very connected world and smartphones are everywhere, so this was a logical extension of the experience we want to provide downtown,” Belmont City Manager Adrian Miller said. “Visitors to downtown can access mobile content without using their own data plans, so they can review menus or the latest specials that our restaurants and shops are offering.”
