The Eden City Council Tuesday unanimously approved a grant program for building rehabilitation in the city’s downtown areas. The program provides up to $5,000 for improvements to the interior and exterior of downtown commercial buildings. Grant applicants are eligible for up to 33.3 percent of the actual improvement costs. Main Street Manager Randy Hunt presented a slide show of empty buildings in Draper, Leaksville, The Boulevard and the Cook Block. “It’s very concerning. These empty buildings… some are not for sale… and there’s no activity whatsoever happening in them. These buildings could really be an issue for growth in Eden,” Hunt said. But there has been progress on other downtown properties.
