Business owners in Farmville now have more options to improve their storefronts, thanks to action by the town’s board of commissioners. Commissioners voted unanimously earlier this month to tweak the town’s façade grant program by eliminating the $5,000 match maximum and replacing it with up to 50 percent funding of any given project, as long as funding is available per fiscal year. In 2013, commissioners began setting aside funds for economic development activities with a primary focus on downtown. Staff recommended the board allocate $10,000 to the dormant façade grant program, which was approved Feb. 4, 2014. Since then, the town has granted $65,000 to business property owners to restore and rehabilitate their storefronts.
