Tuesday morning, Gov. Roy Cooper visited McDowell County and announced that the massive Baxter Healthcare plant in North Cove, which is the largest manufacturing facility in western North Carolina, will expand even more and create 90 new jobs. Cooper also announced that Taylor Stave, LLC, a small company in Nebo that makes wooden parts for wine and whiskey barrels, will expand and create 28 new jobs. This brings the total to 118 new positions in McDowell County. “Businesses big and small, global and local, thrive in North Carolina, and we’re here to celebrate both today.” Local officials from McDowell County, the city of Marion, the McDowell Chamber of Commerce, the McDowell Economic Development Association, McDowell Technical Community College were also on hand for this event. Officials from neighboring Mitchell, Avery and Yancey were there too since the Baxter plant has employees who live in those counties.
