Kannapolis City Council approved a rezoning request that will pave the way for a warehouse/distribution center that developers say will lead to about $100 million worth of development and more than 950 jobs. The Kannapolis City Council voted unanimously Monday to rezone property at 6501, 6419 and 6307 Macedonia Church Road from Campus Development/Rural Estate/Agricultural to Campus Development-Conditional Zoning. Officials for TPA Group — which is developing the project —said they look to create a 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center with more than 950 employee parking spaces. The area in question is 117 acres between Macedonia Church Road and Davidson Highway/NC 73. The project is currently known as Kannapolis Logistics Park. Chris Kouri, an economic development attorney with Nexsen Pruet, is also working on the project said TPA Group works with Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies and this type of project is in high demand. He said TPA looks to invest about $50 million to develop the project and whatever tenant they land looks to invest about another $50 million in upfits.
