Phillip Lookadoo, the director of development and design for the city, said he approved the property’s landscaping plan within the last two weeks and the interior plan within the last two months. “It’s obviously located at the southern entrance in the downtown, and to rehab that would really set the tone for downtown development,” Erwin said. “It was an eyesore for a long time — an abandoned building.” These apartments will be coming at a time when most city and real estate officials say there is a shortage of apartments in Morganton, according to a previous News Herald article. “We hope it will be a place in which folks can love living there,” she said. “Hopefully, it will be a happy home.”
