Municipalities around Eastern North Carolina look a lot different today than in years past.
Thanks to completed renovations – and those currently in the works – downtown areas throughout the county are being revitalized.
In Beaufort, a new performing arts center could be coming soon. The town’s Board of Commissioners agreed to the concept at their July monthly meeting, looking at area of the old elementary school on Long Oak and Mulberry streets. The nonprofit responsible for this idea has not yet set a timeline, but Mayor Rett Newton is excited by the prospect.
“This will be a great addition to the town,” Newton said. “There are opportunities to make Beaufort, as great as it is right now, even better.”
Towns and business owners across Onslow County feel the same way about their areas, and new construction and new businesses are popping up all over. In some cases, well-loved businesses have been given a new look.
Here’s a look at how municipalities are changing the downtown game.
