New Proposal Emerges for Redeveloping City-Owned Site in Downtown Gastonia

May 5, 2017

A competition has emerged between two teams of suitors that want to buy and redevelop a historic piece of downtown Gastonia real estate that’s now owned by the city. With interest only rising in the Citizens National Bank property at 212 W. Main Ave., the possibility remains that other groups might still come forward with bids for acquiring it. Even with the two offers already on the table, city leaders are now considering a big decision about which idea will offer the most prosperous outcome for downtown growth, as well as the most favorable deal for Gastonia taxpayers. “What Gastonia needs is something that has a really firm foundation and can be catalytic in allowing development to be spurred around it,” said Anderson. “So I see this as a real keystone project for the renaissance of downtown. I really believe in the merits of it and we’re excited about continuing to make our case.”
