Organizers cleared more than $43,500 at May’s N.C. Potato Festival to help with the ongoing restoration of downtown Elizabeth City. The amount was disclosed at Thursday’s monthly meeting of Elizabeth City Downtown Inc., the city’s main street-down revitalization organization. ECDI Director Deborah Malenfant said she believes the amount raised is probably the most since the annual event was extended in 2013 to three days. In the past, the event has generally raised amounts in the low-to-mid $30,000 range, she said.
