Sneak Peek New W-S Park Built Around Abandoned Quarry

July 3, 2017

The city’s hidden gem gets unveiled on July 4. That’s the word from city officials, who say that Quarry Park is ready for people to come check out the observation pier and its views of a water-filled rock quarry, the city skyline and, off in the distance, the mountains from Pilot Mountain to Hanging Rock. In years to come, the 220-acre property will likely become one of the city’s best-known parks, city manager Lee Garrity said. “It is a major new park for the city of Winston-Salem,” Garrity said. “The council wanted more open space, more parks where the citizens could enjoy the outdoors. This is a $4 million investment to open up that hidden jewel so the public can see it and enjoy it.”
