‘Unprecedented’ Groundbreaking in Leland

November 14, 2016

Leland town officials and private developers have broken ground together on a project they’re calling “unprecedented” for the area’s economic development, and the start of what they hope will be a renaissance in downtown development along Village Road, the Brunswick Beacon reports. The Gateway project is based on rezoning Leland’s downtown gateway district from the U.S. 17 exit along Village Road and into the surrounding area using FlexCode zoning to promote mixed-use development including retail property and residences. Leland Economic Development director Gary Vidmar said the $45 million project is probably the biggest development effort in town since the pre-Recession days. “This is unprecedented in the town and probably in the entire region,” he said.
